Nashville, TN (April 2, 2008) - Adventure Science Center is teaming up with St. Thomas Health Services to teach kids about leading healthier lifestyles during the fourth annual BodyQuest Challenge, a one-mile fun run and health fair on Saturday, April 12.

The fun run will begin in the Science Center’s upper parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and all registered runners will receive free admission to the Center immediately following the run. The Science Center will open an hour early, at 9 a.m., so runners and visitors can begin exploring the annual health fair.

During the fair, visitors will have an opportunity to interact with health care professionals and learn what it takes to become a doctor during St. Thomas Health Services’ “Med School 101” from 9 a.m. to noon. The fair will also include various stations to learn about the eyes, ears, bones and joints. When visiting each booth, participants will earn corresponding anatomy pieces to fill in a body map. Those that pay attention may test their knowledge to earn special prizes.

In addition, health experts will teach visitors about exercise, nutrition and other healthy resources available in Middle Tennessee. Demonstrations, including yoga, Irish Dance, boxing and gymnastics, will give kids new ideas on ways to stay active and healthy.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn how to identify hidden sugar in food, design model neurons and discover how asthma affects the lungs. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cumberland Transit will set up a station for visitors to try slacklining, a balance sport utilizing webbing stretched between anchor points. Blue Ridge Mountain Sports will teach “Backpacking 101,” helping children to understand how the great outdoors may enhance a healthy lifestyle.

The BodyQuest Challenge Fun Run is for kids ages 14 and under. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and runners should meet in the Adventure Science Center upper parking lot and be ready at 8:30 a.m. Fort Negley Boulevard at Chestnut Street will close at 8:15 in order to prepare for the race, but access to the center will still be available using Bass Street.

For more information on the BodyQuest Challenge please contact Katie Walker at (615) 401-5065.
