Summer 2010

Dear Campers and Families,

Another school year is coming to an end, and now it’s time for making friends, learning, and having fun! Come take part in another fun-filled summer here at the Adventure Science Center’s: Camp Quest. Every day is filled with activities that are designed to create laughter and feed young minds.

Take a virtual trip through the cosmos from a seat in the Sudekum Planetarium, learn to be an inventor, then experiment in the lab with ooze and slime… Ask a lot of questions and learn how to find the answers!

Camp Quest will introduce you to a whole new world – a world where science is an adventure that brings smiles and surprises. Our dedicated camp staff members are here to make sure that each camper gets the most out of this camp.

I’m looking forward to a great summer!

Sincerely,

Libby Staley
Camp Coordinator

ABOUT CAMP QUEST

Camp Quest is a summer day camp providing science enrichment opportunities for children entering Kindergarten through 6th Grade. Campers develop more than just a better understanding of science. At Camp Quest, they expand their creative sides, expend energy with field games, build friendships and take away memories that will last a lifetime. These are some of the most influential years in the development of these campers and ASC wants to do everything it can to help shape their lives in the most positive ways.

Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Early Care fees apply for arrival times between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m.
Late Care fees apply for pick-up times between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m.

WEEKLY THEMES K-6TH GRADES
Fees: $185/week for members, $210/week for non-members

Scientist's Apprentice
June 1-4* (This week is FULL)
July 12-16
How does a magician make a color-changing potion or make an object float in mid-air? Use chemistry and physics to explore the science behind magic and illusions in this week of messy fun.

Flight!
June 7-11
July 19-23

How does a hot air balloon work? The basic principles of flight, which include many elementary physics concepts, can be easily observed in familiar aircraft from kites to airplanes. Start with basics and end with launching your own rocket!

Invention Dimension
June 14-18
July 26-30

Creativity is key as campers learn how to make a movie, game or toy. Some of the coolest things were invented by kids, including earmuffs, helicopters, popsicles and Braille. Experiment, design, and create a prototype.

Pathfinder
June 21-25
Aug. 2-6
What is it like to be an astronaut? How many years does it take to be a veterinarian? What does a scientist REALLY do? This summer camp will help answer these and other questions. Each day’s activities will focus on a different career interest, allowing campers to learn about skills and knowledge needed to become a scientist.

Robotics 101**
June 28- July 2 (This week is FULL)
Aug. 9-13 (This week is FULL)
Campers will design and build fun models of machines and animals, experimenting with everything from mechanics to motor and sensors. From basic engineering skills to simple electronics, learn what makes a robot tick. (cost includes a $25 materials fee)

Busted!
July 5-9
Campers will use the scientific method to test some popular myths and either prove them true or “bust” them as pure fiction. This fun-filled week will use a wide variety of sciences. From chemistry to physics to good old physical science, we’ll cover all the bases.

Sci-Sampler
Aug. 9-13 (This week is FULL)
Aug. 16-20
Daily Science camps are available for children entering K - 6th grades. Experiments, schedules and topics change daily. Camps are from 9 am- 4 pm with extended care available each day. This camp has a daily fee schedule of $45 per day for ASC Members and $55 per day for non-members.
